Mayor Eric Adams spoke before a congregation at a Woodlawn church on Sunday ahead of his next appearance in court.

In celebration of 25 years of service, the Emmanuel Presbyterian Reformed Church's Moderator of the General Assembly, Yaw Frimpong-Onoso, invited Adams to join in the festivities. Adams was also asked to deliver a sense of "liberty" and "prayer" to him and his congregants.

"Even with the issues surrounding the mayor, it is not the end of the world," Frimpong-Onoso said. "We are here to play the advocacy role of bringing the peace of God to the people of New York City."

Hundreds of congregants gathered as Adams took to the podium to congratulate the church on its milestone achievement. He also discussed his current standing in office.

"I'm going to do my work. I'm going to lead this city in the direction that this city is supposed to go to just as you have done for 25 years," Adams said. "Congratulations to you."

Adams also noted his plans for the future.

"I'm going to step up. I'm not going to resign," Adams said defiantly. "I'm going to reign."

However, some Bronx community members, like Seth Moncur, are more concerned with what Adams can do right now.

"As long as he does his job, that's all we can do," Moncur said.

As Adams has already pleaded not guilty last Friday to federal corruption charges, his next court appearance will be on Wednesday Oct. 2.
