Hip-hop lovers have been celebrating 50 years of hip-hop all week. Mayor Eric Adams held a hip-hop block party on Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx on Saturday to celebrate the anniversary.
The party was held outside 1520 Sedgwick Ave, where it is said hip-hop was born.
In 1973 the building's recreation room is where Dj Kool Herc hosted a back-to-school jam with his sister Cindy and the rest is history.
The 5X5 Block Party series is a borough-wide celebration in partnership with ItsAllBlackMusic that showcases the cultural contribution that hip-hop has made nationwide.
News 12’s Heather Fordham spoke to hip-hop lovers who wouldn’t miss the opportunity to celebrate the movement that they grew up with.
