Mayor and school chancellor announce transparent admissions process for students
The mayor and school chancellor are announcing an easier and more transparent admissions process for middle and high school students.
Families will now have one form and one deadline when applying to enter middle and high school for the 2020-2021 school year.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and School Chancellor Richard Carranza say they want to save parents time and stress by making the process more simple.
De Blasio and Carranza say that all grade levels now have one, consistent admissions system. They say that families will no longer need to learn a different process each time a student applies to a new school.
"If we want opportunity for all, we have to make it work and we have to make it simple because a lot of times parents and kids didn't even apply to schools that might've been the right one for them because they didn't understand the process, or the found it too hard to navigate," said Mayor de Blasio.
