Outdoor dining still has the green light this winter and the city has released a list of guidelines for restaurants planning to stay open.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has allowed for outdoor dining to continue through the fall and winter, and announced Wednesday that restaurants planning to continue to serve customers outside need to make sure to have proper heating devices.
Those options include electrical heaters for sidewalk and roadways setups, natural gas heaters for sidewalk only, and portable heaters fueled by propane for the sidewalk. The propane heaters must be regulated by the FDNY.
These changes will be monitored by the Department of Buildings, Department of Transportation and the FDNY. Same rules go for private outdoor dining. Those restaurants have to make sure to follow guidance from the FDNY and DOB.
