Mayor Bill de Blasio launches new parks initiative
Mayor Bill de Blasio launched a new initiative aimed at making all parks equal.
He says $130 million will go toward recreating 35 parks, nine of them located in the Bronx.
The mayor says over the years many parks in low-income areas haven't been receiving much funding, and that's simply not fair. According to the mayor, in 20 years the 35 parks allocated for restoration funds have only received $250,000 in capital investments.
The parks flagged for re-creation in the Bronx include Hunts Point Playground, Little Claremont Park, Longfellow Garden, Lyons Square Playground, Melrose Commons Site 32, Playground 52, Ranaqua Park, Saw Mill Playground, and Seabury Park.
