New York City could soon be moving into a yellow alert level as Mayor Eric Adams says COVID-19 cases are on the rise. Moving into the next level of caution means moving back to the Key to NYC program, which requires vaccinations to visit most places and masks in public schools.

This comes after a federal judge in Florida struck down the national mask mandate that requires travelers to wear a mask on planes, buses, trains and other public transportation Monday. Masks will now be optional to wear on means of travel such as planes, buses and others across the country.

Several airlines like Delta, United, JetBlue and American have made mask wearing optional. Now passengers, but also airport employees, crew members and customers inside U.S. airports on board all domestic aircraft and most international flights do not have to wear a mask. However, the MTA says its mask mandate will remain in effect for now, meaning commuters will still need to wear a mask to ride on subways and buses.

Local mask mandates in other countries may still be in effect.
