In his daily briefing this morning, Mayor Bill de Blasio continued his push for all New Yorkers to trust that the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and to get it when they're able to.
The mayor announced a new campaign emphasizing that the vaccine is "safe, effective and free." The campaign will feature social media this week, digital and subway ads next week, then spots on television and radio beginning in January.
De Blasio says the ads will be leaning on word of mouth and firsthand testimonials, as he has over the last week.
"All the pain, all the suffering, all the loss can be defeated through this vaccine. That's what we want to get across, and the best way to get the message across is for you to hear from everyday New Yorkers who have received the vaccine, and they can explain why it's so important to them and their families, why it's so important to you," the mayor said.
De Blasio says on Tuesday, there have been 193 new hospitalizations, with the 7-day average of new case numbers at nearly 2,900 and the infection rate at 5.88%, which is slightly down Monday.
Still, that is higher than the 5% threshold the mayor says the city needs to be under.
