Mayor outlines 4-point plan to keep nursing home residents safe
Mayor Bill de Blasio is outlining a four-point plan to keep nursing home residents safe.
He says the city will expand testing for residents in 169 nursing homes all around the city. The city will offer on-site testing at all nursing homes.
Mandatory staff testing at those homes has already begun to help fill the holes of staffers who test positive.
More people are being brought in to help staff nursing homes, and 10 outbreak response teams will be ready to respond if there are clusters of positive cases.
The city will be working with homes to facilitate home-based care for seniors.
The mayor is also encouraging parents to get their children immunized. Since the coronavirus pandemic started, there has been a decline in vaccinations.
He says getting kids vaccinated is an essential task and should not be postponed.
