Memorial in Wakefield honors lives lost from COVID-19 pandemic

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic remain in The Bronx community over five years later.
The second annual memorial for families to celebrate their lost loved ones was held Saturday at Bissel Garden in Wakefield.
City data shows that more than 47,000 New Yorkers died from COVID-19.
Joy lost her husband in April 2020. She was with her husband Errol for 42 years.
"He passed out in the urgent care and they took him to the hospital. And from then, I lost my husband and was never allowed to see him again," she said.
Last year, a tree was planted to memorialize those who died from COVID-19. Flags were placed around that tree on Saturday. Organizers say they hope for an even bigger remembrance next year.
