Metropolitan College of New York's Bronx campus opened its doors to students for the first time Thursday.
The new 26,000-square-foot college on East 149th Street in Mott Haven has 17 classrooms, three computer labs and a conference hall for community events.
The four-year college offers bachelor's and master's degrees in human services, business, emergency and health care management. It also caters to full-time students who are balancing work and school by offering classes that begin in the evening and weekends.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says the college is "here for the long haul" after purchasing the property on 149th Street.
"[It] shows their commitment and trust for the future of our borough," says Diaz Jr.
