Growing up in Midwood, Diane Robinson's goals grew quite large. That is, if you consider saving the world a big goal.
Robinson worked for Teach For America for two decades teaching and recruiting others to join the non-profit that puts educators in schools in low-income communities across the country. It led to another interest of Robinson's and eventually, a career change.
A new journey that started in 2019, Robinson is now in post-production for her first documentary called 'The Young Vote.' Filming began in 2019 following young people around America as they try to figure out the political system in the country. Robinson told News 12, Brooklyn filmmakers like Spike Lee were part of the reason she wanted to get into the field.
"Honestly, I've always loved film. I love great movies, I love great stories. In many ways when I was a non-profit leader, I was always telling stories about my kids and the communities that I taught in, so for me filmmaking is another way to do that," she says.
Robinson hopes to submit 'The Young Vote' to film festivals, including some in New York City, later this year.
