A new mobile outreach van is taking to the streets of the Bronx to help people who may be experiencing a drug overdose.
It is the latest venture from the organization Bronx Hope to connect to the community. The van travels from the Concourse Plaza parking lot outside Bronx Criminal Court and parks outside various police precincts.
The goal is to connect directly with people, especially those released from the precinct with a drug-related desk appearance. "We wanted to meet people where they at, we want to be available at all times," Magaly Melendez said, the senior program manager at Bronx Community Solutions.
The van is stocked with NARCAN nasal spray kits, fentanyl strips and Xylazine strips, as well as snacks and information packets.
"Not only do we address the drug issues, but we also try to help with the social services," said Aramis Lopez, a peer specialist with Bronx Hope, which is a division of Bronx Community Solutions.
The van is fully funded by New York state Sen. Gustavo Rivera.
The van's location can be found by clicking here.
