Monsignor Scanlan High School held its annual breast cancer awareness event to honor those affected by the disease, including a former staff member and a current teacher who survived breast cancer.
The event, part of the school’s ongoing commitment to raising awareness, brought the community together in support.
“This day brings fellowship and camaraderie like no other,” said principal Eric Mercado.
Arlene Faustin, a teacher and breast cancer survivor, reflected on her journey.
“It has become a part of me,” she said. “And to see my students get so involved in this, it makes such a difference.”
Faustin was diagnosed in November 2019 after noticing numbness on the left side of her body. She said her annual mammogram helped detect the cancer early, but the road to recovery wasn’t easy.
The American Cancer Society emphasizes the importance of early detection in battling breast cancer.
