More police are on the subways, but is the MTA’s latest game plan working?

This month, the MTA and NYPD announced that more than 200 officers would be deployed to stations across the city, as well as two officers on every train for the overnight hours.
MTA CEO Janno Lieber told News 12 that although he is happy that there is now more security throughout the entire system, he will never be satisfied until every single person riding the subway feels safe.
Leiber said that “high-profile“ incidents are making New Yorkers feel unsafe.
Over the weekend in the Bronx, a 25-year-old man was stabbed multiple times at the 149th Street station. Another horrifying incident took place in Coney Island last month, where a Brooklyn woman was burned alive on a train.
Lieber says he is “thrilled“ that the NYPD added officers to the system and highly praised Gov. Kathy Hochul and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch for getting this done.
NYPD data shows 628 arrest systemwide between Jan. 20 and the 26 alone.
Lieber also shared that fair vision is down by 25% on the subways within the last six months, showing a downward trend.
