Morris Heights Medical Center hosts health awareness, raffle event along Burnside Avenue
The Morris Heights Medical Center hosted a celebration promoting a healthier Bronx for National Health Center Week.
Multiple community organizations lined up along Burnside Avenue Thursday to give Bronx residents a roadmap that will help them have a healthy and strong future.
Official say the push starts with the community learning about the resources available to help them. Burnside Avenue was filled with people obtaining free health screenings, social services and other community services rooted in wellness.
The celebration is part of a national initiative led by the National Association of Community Health Centers aiming to raise awareness on the role health centers play in providing health care services to millions of people across the country.
Thursday’s event is especially important to a community like the Bronx, which according to New York City health professionals, is disproportionately affected by health conditions such as obesity and diabetes.
Everyone in attendance was allowed to enter a raffle for a chance to win some prizes such as bicycles, tablets for school and more.
