United Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science 2 is in its second year of having students lock their cellphones in pouches during the day.
Those pouches are magnetized, students keep them during the day but can’t open them up and get their phones until dismissal.
Both teachers and students News 12 spoke with say its helped both academically and socially, forcing kids to interact face-to-face.
Gov. Kathy Hochul is still deciding on the status of cellphones in schools statewide.
