Some Mount Hope residents say the step street in their neighborhood is in desperate need of a makeover.
Neighbors say the step street at the corner of Morris Avenue and Grand Concourse has poor lighting and is filled with garbage, cracks and standing water that remains for days after rainfall.
They say the step street has a smell of urine in the air and that rarely trimmed tree branches block a lamp post, which is missing a light.
Sam Goodman, of the Bronx borough president's office, says the city Department of Transportation is responsible for maintaining the area and is aware of the issue.
The DOT tells News 12 there have been no recent complaints about the step street in its records. They say it is cleaned on a weekly basis.
The agency says it will inspect the location for any concerns regarding lighting.
