308ds agoGet ready to start your Thanksgiving with a little exercise when the Mount Vernon 5K Turkey Trot hits the ground running this year.
The race will start bright and early at 7 a.m. Thanksgiving morning outside City Hall.
The new event is part of Mount Vernon's plans to expand fitness into the city which, like many communities of color, has major health disparities.
The state Health Department estimates chronic illness like heart disease is 15% higher than average in Mount Vernon than the rest of the county, and events like this one will help get people excited about exercise.
There will also be a virtual option just like last year.
