The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau received a near $1 million boost to support a girl's and women empowerment program on Tuesday.

The Mount Vernon Youth Bureau received a near $1 million boost to support a girl's and women empowerment program on Tuesday.

'Safe Place 4 Our Girls' is a haven for girls as young as 10 years old to women navigating adulthood at 21 years old.

A new $990,000 project grant will keep activities running at the center on Roosevelt Square and beyond.

The initiative fosters mental, physical and social development through activities.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman went to congratulate the group on Tuesday.
