MTA's Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) Program is expanding to three more Bronx bus routes, joining the existing nine that are part of the program. The new routes are Bx3, Bx7 and Bx20. Buses in the program have cameras that can detect vehicles blocking bus stops ad lanes and issue the drivers summonses.
The MTA says its goal is to make bus service faster and more reliable.
Since ACE launched last summer, MTA data shows those bus routes have increased speeds between 5% and 30%. There has also been a 40% reduction in bus stops being blocked by vehicles on ACE routes. News 12 spoke with a number of bus riders in Marble Hill. One said he feels bad for drivers, but most people were in favor of the ACE Program and are excited to see the effects on the new bus routes in the Bronx. The MTA will have a 60-day warning period starting Monday, Sept. 15. After that, it will start issuing summonses to vehicles along the new ACE bus routes.
