The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says it has launched a new version of its subway cars among other additional safety measures.
The new cars will include an "open gangway," which will allow passengers to move about from one car to another. Gov. Kathy Hochul says this new feature will accommodate passenger comfort and improve safety across the subway system.
Officials also touched on other planned initiatives such as the addition of security cameras on subway cars. By the end of the year, nearly 30,000 cameras on all new and existing trains as well as wider doors for better accessibility.
