The Metropolitan Transportation Authority launched #TakeTheTrain Spotify playlists to welcome back commuters to 24-hour service on the train system on May 19.
On May 14, the MTA saw post-pandemic records with over 2 million trips on the New York City subway, over 100,000 trips on the Long Island Rail Road, and over 80,000 trips on Metro-North.
Since the onset of the pandemic a year ago, combined subway and bus ridership reached over 2.3 million riders for the first time.
The five curated playlists can be found on the MTA's Spotify page. They were curated by both MTA leadership and regular subway riders.
Each playlist is full of musical hits and has a different theme. They span a variety of genres and decades.
Songs on the playlists include: "Together Again" by Janet Jackson," If You Had My Love" by Jennifer Lopez, "Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls, "Everywhere" by Fleetwood Mac, "Heroes" by David Bowie and so much more.
The MTA has undertaken unprecedented cleaning and disinfecting protocols to ensure that the system is as safe as possible for its users.
