After spending two years taking a deep dive into its entire system, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has released a 20-year assessment that shows what course the agency should take in the future.
The MTA says the goal is to modernize its systems within the agency. The two-year analysis examined nearly 6 million MTA assets. The agency says it discovered that aging infrastructure and climate change are its two greatest threats.
MTA CEO Janno Lieber says two big takeaways from the assessment are to continue investments in accessibility projects and to convert all buses to zero-emission vehicles by 2040.
