The MTA says daily actions by commuters are impacting the transit system.
Maybe you have seen someone jump the turnstile in the subway - or maybe you have even jumped one yourself.
The MTA says it is in a 5.5% finance deficit due to this common act.
It is looking into strategies - like engineering newer turnstiles and educating the community on how fare evasion puts the whole city at a disadvantage.
Another thing playing into the expected deficit is real estate.
As more people switch to remote work, vacant office space is appearing. Less commuting means less revenue in the MTA's pocket.
The MTA will go over their new budget and plan to vote in the fall.
