The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is hoping to help workers who work late have an easier commute.
The MTA project is called the "Late Shift Pilot Program." It is asking for proposals from transportation companies to work out a partnership.
It says it is looking at areas where people are more than a half-mile away from the nearest train station and want to make sure people can get to their destination safely in the late-night hours.
Phase one of the project will focus on collecting data in those areas, and phase two will determine the location time frame and business terms of the project.
The MTA says the number of people working at night is increasing and that it wants to provide seamless overnight travel.
Transit riders tell News 12 this is an initiative that it thinks would be helpful to many.
The MTA says it wants to have proposals from transportation companies in by Feb. 18. It says it hopes to pick a partner for the pilot program by the end of next month.
