MTA to implement new OMNY vending machines this summer
The machines will dispense tap cards for riders to easily purchase if they do not have a credit or debit card with the tap to pay technology.

7ds agoThe Metropolitan Transportation Authority is preparing to roll out new OMNY vending machines this summer in New York City.
The machines will be installed at 472 stations and will dispense tap cards for riders to easily purchase if they do not have a credit or debit card with the tap-to-pay technology. They can also be used for riders who want a dedicated card to pay for the subway.
Since launching in 2019, OMNY's tap to pay system has become a fast-growing favorite among riders.
"We've now got 40% of our riders using it," says Jamie Torres-Springer, president of MTA Construction & Development.
Torres-Springer says there are 16,000 OMNY devices across the entire transit system.
"This summer we'll start to roll out our OMNY vending machines to every station across our subway system," says Torres-Springer
The agency says this initiative will make it easier to pay fares while also avoiding fare evasion.
MTA officials say once the technology is fully implemented, it expects to phase out the MetroCard.
The MTA also plans to eventually introduce OMNY to the JFK air train and Roosevelt Island tram.
