A water main break in Pelham Gardens has impacted at least five homes on Astor Avenue.

The Department of Environmental Protection says at least five homes are without water. Crews were able to shut down the main line to prevent water from continuing to surge into the street and neighboring homes.

Maria Pone says water flooded her first floor, basement and backyard, causing significant damage.

“I’m in shock, because I thought it was rain," said Pone. "I have to be careful. I have to go to work and then I see all the water come into my house."

DEP was at Astor and Delanoy avenues working to make repairs to restore water in the area.
