Multiple shops along W 235th Street in Kingsbridge remained in the dark on Friday.
Workers in the area say a transformer blew overnight Monday.
“Con Ed came and did what they had to do but we’re really waiting on the electrician from the landlord to get things up to code," said Robert Newman, a pharmacist at Regal Pharmacy.
The pharmacy is now relying on a $700 a day generator to power their computers and get prescriptions to people on an emergency basis.
“I’ve been a pharmacist almost 40 years, I haven’t had this much stress since COVID," said Newman.
Newman says they've been able to keep the medicine in the refrigerator cool by using freezer bricks and bags of ice.
Other businesses have had to completely shut their doors, leaving customers disappointed.
"I’ve arrived here was hoping to see it and it’s closed, what’s going on? There’s some power outage or something," said Mark Honigsbaum, who is visiting from England.
News 12 spoke with the electrician who is working on the wiring, and he says temporary power should be restored by the end of the weekend.
