Those with Municipal Credit Union accounts have been receiving emails regarding fraudulent activity in their account, as the bank’s app was down for service maintenance.

One MCU customer spoke with News 12 and says since she received that notice, she’s now missing $400 from her savings. Yolanda Stapleton has been an MCU customer for over a decade and says the missing $400 must have been taken while the bank’s system was down for maintenance.

Stapleton arrived at a Co-op City branch of the MCU, and wasn’t able to have any of her questions answered.

“This morning, I came over here to the bank and there were 1,000 people in here… everybody had got hacked,” said Stapleton. “Anywhere from $400 to $1,000 from the savings accounts… people have been saving for a long time. You need your money.”

The bank told Stapleton her money will be reimbursed within a few days and issued her a new debit card, but she says she’s still considering other banking options.
