A new mural designed to raise awareness about fire safety was unveiled in Highbridge.
The mural was created by artist and New York native Cey Adams in partnership with fire safety company Kidde.
The design includes a QR code that provides information and fire safety tips when scanned.
Adams says many people lack basic fire safety knowledge, such as knowing to check smoke detectors and close doors to prevent the spread of flames.
He hopes the project will help prevent tragedies like the Twin Parks fire, which took the lives of 17 Bronx residents in January.
"Grey’s Anatomy" star Jesse Williams, whose brother is a firefighter, attended the unveiling. Williams says he hopes to use his platform to highlight important issues such as fire safety.
"Folks growing up in different economic situations, we are packing that property in places that are not always up to code. We do not always have our smoke alarms up to code, updated and available. The consequences are dire,” said Williams.
