Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and other Republican elected officials will be outside a Russian-owned compound in Glen Cove Saturday for what they call a major announcement.
The elected officials will be calling on the state department and President Joe Biden's administration to take some kind of action, possibly related to the facility, which is used as a retreat by Russian diplomats.
In 2016, the state department expelled Russian diplomats from a different compound in Upper Brookville over accusation of interfering with the United States presidential election.
Behind the gates on Dosoris Lane, a mansion hidden from public view was purchased by the Russian government in the 1950s and has been a vacation home for its diplomats.
Rep. Lee Zeldin whose running for governor will be at the announcement.
"It really is truly an important, genuine call that hopefully your coverage of will get to the White House and the state department and influence decisions as to Russian presence on U.S. soil," Zeldin says.
The Glen Cove compound known as Kllenworth is the only active Russian facility on Long Island.
Cyber security expert Adam Schwam says Russian hackers, both here and abroad, could be targeting small businesses and local governments.
He advises people to be careful about opening emails or clicking on links.
"Be completely cognizant of what you're clicking on," Schwam says. "Make sure that any email you open, you really know the sender."
He says Russia, North Korea, Iran, China and others are always seeking to gain an advantage with cyber warfare.
Blakeman is expected to talk at around 11 a.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, there will be a prayer vigil at the location at the same time.
