This fall, a nationwide emergency alert test is set to take place, reaching every cellphone across the United States. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have scheduled the drill for Oct. 4 at 2:20 p.m. Cellphone users can expect to receive an alert reading, "This is a test of the national wireless emergency alert system. No Action is needed." The test aims to ensure all devices are adequately prepared to receive notifications in the event of a national emergency. In addition to cellphones, radios and televisions will also undergo testing on the same day.
