A current NBA assistant coach will be returning to his old stomping grounds this weekend in Rockland County.

Basketball has brought Bruce Kreutzer to many places over the years, but his journey began in Rockland Community College.

"It carries over for all the lessons you learn in life and that's the thing. It's the foundation for whatever is going to be your next step, your next act," Kreutzer says.

Kreutzer, an award-winning basketball player at the college, has spent the years since his 1970 graduation coaching the game at all levels.

Currently, he's an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic, helping hone the players' shooting skills.

"The biggest thing is the gratitude I have for the people who have helped my career, helped me grow as an individual," Kreutzer says.

Like at Rockland Community College, where he will return Friday to talk with students and the public during a special series with the hopes to impart wisdom.

"There's nothing wrong with chasing your dreams, ya know? And if you're willing to put the work into it, ya know? It may not always be on your time frame, but it'll come true," Kreutzer says.

Kreutzer's “Life After the Rock” lecture begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Rockland Community College and is open to the public.

On Saturday night, Kreutzer will be inducted into the Pearl River Hall of Fame, his hometown.
