A new Netflix series set in the Bronx held its first public showing Thursday night at the Lehman Center for the Performing Arts.
"The Get Down" - which portrays the birth of hip-hop in New York City - is seen through the eyes of a group of scrappy, talented teens in the South Bronx in the late 1970s.
Director Baz Luhrmann says he wanted to explore how a creative idea can seemingly come from nowhere and go on to change the world.
"It led me to work with the founding fathers of hip-hop. It led me to work with writers that are here in the Bronx," said Luhrmann.
The show is available to stream today.
