With skyrocketing rent prices and inflation continuing into 2024, finding a place you can actually afford to live is more important than ever. A new affordable housing development is coming to the Bronx, and News 12 has everything you need to know.
Camber Property Group is developing the Stevenson Square area of Soundview along Seward Avenue below White Plains Road with all affordable housing.
The entire complex will be for low-income New Yorkers without breaking the bank.
One building will have more than 110 studios for seniors 62 years old and older.
The building is slated to have a roof terrace, gym, laundry and community rooms as well as access to social services from organization RAIN (Regional Aid for Interim Needs).
Two other buildings will have a total of 58 affordable coops to buy at well below market rates without sacrificing comfort, according to officials.
The plan also includes opening up the now-gated off lot that already has another apartment building on it, meaning residents can walk through from Lafayette Avenue to Seward Avenue without going around the block.
Funding came from a variety of local sources including $2 million from Councilwoman Amanda Farias.
The buildings are expected to be finished and open to the public by January 2026.
