A new affordable housing development in the Bronx called El Boriquen brings a vibrant look to the borough alongside almost 150 new affordable housing units.
The colorful façade of the building is meant to honor the colors seen in Puerto Rico and other Latin islands.
Comunilife, in conjunction with the city, created the 148-unit affordable green building residence to house and provide services for low-income New Yorkers, seniors, youth aging out of the foster system, and special-needs adults.
Those who envisioned the space say the open concept with a courtyard and art in the lobby is meant to improve both physical and mental health for the residents.
Services at El Boriquen include case management, health care coordination, and social and educational activities.
