New animal care center, years in the making, set to open in the Bronx
A new animal care center is finally coming to the Bronx after spending years in the making.
The center will make its debut on Bartow Avenue after years of demand from the community. What is now a vacant lot in Co-Op City will become a 50,000 square-foot facility for Bronx residents to browse adoptable pets.
There is currently no full-service animal care center in the Bronx, although 27% of animals that enter the shelter system are brought in by Bronx residents.
The facility will also offer wildlife education and rehabilitation, as well as veterinary services.
One resident tells News 12 that he’s glad that affordable animal healthcare is finally coming to the neighborhood.
The project is wrapping up its design phase this year and the new center is set to open in the summer of 2025.
