Sen. Richard Blumenthal honored a New Canaan woman Saturday for her work in helping people trying to get organ transplants.
Jen Benson, who herself received a new kidney and pancreas, heads up a non-profit called "The Transplant Journey", which she said helps individuals and families navigate the complicated process of acquiring transplanted organs.
She said the organization pairs mentors with people who hope to receive a transplant.
"Because I was faced with the obstacles and didn't know where to turn, and now I'm able to provide support for them and help guide them through their journey themselves," Benson explained.
"Jen Benson has given so much to so many people through her advocacy for recipients of organ transplants," Blumenthal said.
Benson's story is featured in a new Amazon best-seller called "Because of Organ Donation", which chronicles the journeys of recipients, donors and donor families.
