A new COVID-19 memorial at the Greenwood Cemetery is giving New Yorkers the chance to honor those who lost their lives during the pandemic and those who are still impacted by it today.
A collective of artists and community groups came together to create the ‘Many Losses of COVID-19’ memorial this May.
“The whole purpose of these memorials is to recognize the dead from Covid,” said Kay Turner, who helped to name this project. “The thing that this memorial is trying to do is bring people to their grief in a more conscious way.”
The Greenwood Cemetery will be hosting a free dedication ceremony on Thursday, May 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The display will remain up until May 29.
