New data shows COVID-19 infection rates are on the rise in New York City, as city officials push for New Yorkers to get tested.

On this “Get Tested Tuesday,” the push from health officials is to do just that - get tested.

This as new infection rate numbers are released. The highest numbers are coming out of Tottenville in Staten Island, which News 12 is told has a 6.57% infection rate.

The second highest is Richmond Hill in Queens with 4.43%.

Concourse and Highbridge in the Bronx have a 4.08% infection rate, and Cypress Hills and parts of East New York have a 4% infection rate.

These numbers on the heels of Pfizer’s announcement Monday that its COVID-19 vaccine may be 90% effective based on early and incomplete test results.

It is now on track to apply later this month for emergency-use approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Authorities stress it’s unlikely there will be a vaccine available before the end of the year and the initial supplies will be rationed. At the same time, the mayor stressed this is not time to ease up on safety precautions, saying we are dangerously close to having a second wave.
