A pilot program by the New York City Department of Transportation is set to bring nearly 3,000 scooters to the East Bronx with safety as the top priority. 

According to DOT, phase one of the program will bring the scooters to Eastchester, Wakefield, Pelham Parkway and Co-Op City. 

Phase two, set to happen in 2022, will include Throgs Neck, Parkchester and Soundview. 

The LINK by Superpedestrian is one of the scooters you could see in the East Bronx by spring. 

Paul Mondesire, head of policy and community engagement at Superpedestrian, says their scooters are in consideration for the pilot program. 

"We want to be drivers of transportation equity...To get around a little bit more easily, a little bit more cheaply, and a little bit more safely,” said Mondesire. 

He says he hopes the scooters can connect neighborhoods and help passengers with their first and last mile.
