A new facility to care for the homeless is now open in Mott Haven. But city officials say it’s just the beginning of what’s to come in the fight against homelessness.
The Morris Avenue Safe Haven and Health Center was unveiled on Tuesday.
The center has 80 beds, dressers, a recreation room, laundry room, a medical facility, social workers and caseworkers.
The ribbon-cutting was held by Mayor Eric Adams, his team and those from the facility.
Mayor Adams had an optimistic tone about the facility, saying it is not like other shelters.
The facility is still in development and News 12 is told it should open in the late spring or early summer.
The mayor says he’s going to unveil more details on his fight against homelessness. He says they’re going to be looking at roughly 2,000 beds across the city that haven’t been filled and get those up and running.
