A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held in Red Hook Wednesday to unveil the newly renovated fitness room at the Joseph Miccio Community Center.
The remnants of Hurricane Ida destroyed the room last year.
The renovations were made possible by the Brooklyn Nets.
Teens and kids who live in New York City Housing Authority units and belong to the community center didn't waste any time for their first workout in the room.
Luis Figueroa has been coming to the fitness room his whole life. He, like many of his peers, once again have a safe space to workout.
When Ida struck, it caused flooding in the fitness room.
Upon learning of the damages, the Brooklyn Nets decided to step in and help.
The fitness room is now open, and ready to serve this generation and many more to come.
