New guidelines for summer day camps include temperature checks, small groups and masks

Summer is certainly in full swing which means it’s time for kids to head off to camp.
Sleep away isn't an option in New York this year because of the pandemic, but day camps are open with protections in place.
Some of the new guidelines for day camps include campers kept in small groups, temperature checks, social distancing and counselors in face coverings at all times.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave the OK for summer day camp to open late last month.
It is a new normal for Mosholu Day Camp director of almost 30 years, Mark Halpern.
“Nothing is used two periods in a row so we have time to wash down and clean everything,” says Halpern.
Halpern says attendance at his camp is down to a third of what it typically is.
Doctors News 12 spoke with are advising parents to assess the risk, learn what protections are in place and encourage kids to wear their masks even though they don't have to on campgrounds.
“There's no zero risk activity, but we do know that children do benefit from being in an environment with other children and that's something a lot of kids have missed over the past few months,” says Dr. Margaret Aldrich, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore.
