Mayor Eric Adams announced on Wednesday that $12.3 million in funding will go toward leasing part of the Bronx General Post Office building on Grand Concourse for Hostos Community College.

The new "Allied Health and Natural Sciences Life Sciences Center" will feature new instruction labs, classrooms, student spaces and faculty offices.

“The kids that are looking to be the future of life sciences can now come here for an affordable rate, and can get what they want to do, that's great," said Jaden Torres, an alumnus of Hostos Community College.

A large part of the building has remained vacant for over a decade. The post office takes up 10,000 square feet. The college will be able to use 190,000 square feet.

Construction is set to begin in 2026, with an estimated completion of 2028.
