The Hollywood awards season will kick off this Sunday with a virtual Golden Globes, and New Jersey will be well represented.

Ramy Youssef, star and creator of the Hulu original series "Ramy," grew up in Rutherford. His show about an Arab Muslim family living in New Jersey brought Youssef a breakout moment last year at the Golden Globes, winning him Best Actor in a TV, musical or comedy. He is up for the award again this year for the second season of the show.

Ethan Hawke spent most of his childhood living in West Windsor. He stars in the Showtime dark comedy “The Good Lord Bird,” as abolitionist John Brown. Hawke is up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television.

The Amazon series “Hunters” starring Al Pacino was partially shot in New Jersey. Pacino was nominated for Best Actor in a TV Series Drama.

“The Trial of the Chicago 7” may be based on the federal government’s case against counterculture protesters at the 1969 Democratic Convention in Chicago. But the film was mainly shot in New Jersey. It is nominated for five Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture Drama – a category in which it has competition from the film “Nomadland.”

“Nomadland” may have been shot in the Midwest and Southwest. But its New Jersey connection is that it is based on the nonfiction book “Nomadland: Surviving America in the 21st Century” by Montclair journalist Jessica Bruder.

The Golden Globes will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
