With the demand for trade professions on the rise in New Jersey, the Universal Technical Institute in Bloomfield is taking the initiative to help.
The school debuted its ‘Welding Program at Universal Technical Institute” on Wednesday to prep the next generation of welders to enter an industry boom.
"We're seeing a lot of technicians, a lot of welders, starting to age out of the industry,” Shawn Alexander, Universal Technical Institute campus president told News 12. “There needs to be this influx of individuals who have a passion to work with their hands, who have a passion to have this technical skill that's going to have a job skill that's going to be in demand."
Prospects are looking good for those looking to get into the trading field. The New Jersey Department of Labor has reported an average of 600 openings each year.
The American Welding Society projects 314,000 openings nationwide by 2024.
