Elected officials spoke in Mott Haven on Monday about a new NYCHA project aimed at combating mold and leak issues at NYCHA buildings across the city.

The new Building Line Initiative project will be implemented at NYCHA buildings that have the highest contamination risks, including Patterson Houses.

Both Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Borough President Vanessa Gibson spoke in front of Patterson Houses about the importance of the project.

"I think one by one, we are slowly going to get to every NYCHA development that needs upgraded piping systems and the removal of asbestos and mold," Gibson said.

Gillibrand is fighting to secure $5 million in funding for the project through the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development bill, which will be voted on at the end of the month.
