A new art, retail and café space in Brooklyn is aiming to bring local artists together.
The new SEED Brooklyn space was created by Christophe Roberts, who says he always felt he needed to get his creative fix by leaving the borough and wants to change that.
“Consumers, artists, community want more localized experiences,” said Roberts. “They want something that they can immerse in, and an artist-led project is just that.”
Roberts, a 12-year Brooklyn resident, says the new space is meant to stimulate the senses, with unique garments to touch, digital art to view, music to hear, and freshly made drinks from the café to smell and taste.
He says that it is important to remember the community roots with a project of this nature, and the vision has been five years in the making.
"I wanted to lead with an all-minority base, cultural melting pot, of artists that all have a strong voice," said Roberts. "This project, intense indeed. One of the hardest lifts I've done as an artist."
The space opened on Friday and is hosting performances and more throughout the weekend.
