New White House press secretary hails from Long Island

The historic new appointment of Karine Jean-Pierre as the new White House press secretary has a connection to Long Island.
Karine Jean-Pierre is the first Black woman and the first openly LGBT+ person named to the position.
Jean-Pierre says she grew up in Queens, but moved to Hempstead as a child where she attended Franklin Elementary and Kellenberg High School.
